Speaker Profile - Don (DC) Drake, LADC I
Don, a retired licensed clinician in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, is a dedicated human services organizational trainer, change leader, team builder, and program developer with over 40 years of human services, law enforcement and security experience in a variety of milieus providing direct care, supervisory and managerial services which include correctional, residential, hospital/medical and out-patient settings. He is also a retired professional wrestler who is in the New England Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame.
He served as Program Administrator and clinical director at facilities in Boston, Hartford, Providence, and Philadelphia. He structured, hired, supervised and trained staff in
providing behavioral and addiction treatments to adolescent, adult, and senior clients, including those with HIV/AIDS.
He has worked as a trainer for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health presenting the Question, Persuade and Refer (QPR) Suicide Prevention training, a 1-2 hour educational program designed to teach lay and professional "gatekeepers" the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond.
Drake also worked as a trainer for the Massachusetts Council on Compulsive Gambling, a non-profit health agency dedicated to reducing the social, financial, and emotional costs of a gambling disorder, as a certified trainer for the Crisis Prevention Institute. This international training organization specializes in the safe management of disruptive and assaultive behavior and was a Certified Hepatitis C Educator with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Besides his career in human services and addiction treatment, he also worked as a professional wrestler and television producer for multiple wrestling organizations in the United States, Japan, the Philippines and Europe part-time and full-time, retiring in 1997.
During his wrestling career, DC Drake held the National Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Championship, the Tri-State Wrestling Alliance Heavyweight Championship, the Polynesian Heavyweight Championship, and several regional titles. This work allowed him to travel the world, visiting a variety of cultures and countries, giving him a unique insight into the human condition and how other societies planned for and treated their seniors.
While in his wrestling role, he created a program in the 1980s called Beyond No, doing substance abuse education in middle and high schools across the country. This program used pro wrestlers accompanied by teachers and social workers, who were urine screened by the Carlisle Pennsylvania District Attorney's Office, to ensure they were drug-free to speak to these students and make referrals for treatment. The program appeared in over 300 schools.
In his role with Connelly Law Offices, Ltd., he presents workshops on health-related matters for seniors, assists with seniors presenting with histories of addiction and mental health issues, and coordinates workshops and workshop development with Attorney Connelly and his staff.
